New York Energy Week Opening Night: Transition To a Dynamic Energy Future
Limited Capacity seats available

Transition to a Dynamic Energy Future

Making the customer a partner: Customers changing the landscape of the energy industry while connecting distributed generation and implementing energy efficiency. As a consequence, electricity demand is flattening, changing the dynamic on capital costs and electricity rates. It is already possible to see demand for power decoupling from GDP growth. Utilities now face the challenge of managing demand decline.

Changes in policy, regulation and technology are also driving the electric power towards a more customer-centric, cleaner and distributed future. This panel will examine the evolution in the roles of multiple stakeholders, such as customers, utilities, and investors and will explore the industry transformations in policy that are facilitating third-parties to play an increasingly larger role in this transformation.

Energy Plant Tour: Co-generation Power, Solar Installation, and More at BNY!
Limited Capacity full

New York Energy Week brings you: Energy Plant Tour at the Brooklyn Navy Yard!

Once America’s premier Naval shipyard, today the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a mission-driven industrial park and a hub of industry, host to 330 business and 7,000 workers. This tour showcases the role the Brooklyn Navy Yard plays in providing economic opportunities for thousands of New Yorkers, from small business owners to manufacturing workers to technology startups, many working in the energy sector.

We will take a closer look at the infrastructure that keeps the Yard running, including a co-generation plant, a 1.1 million kWh rooftop solar project, and water treatment facilities. We will focus on the major development projects currently underway at the Yard, including new construction and adaptive reuse, which are projected to more than double the Yard’s workforce to over 16,000 by 2020, the greatest expansion of the Yard since World War II.

The tour covers most of the massive 300-acre campus, including visits to the still-active 1851 Dry Dock No. 1, the one-million-square-foot World War II-era Building 77, the sites of the Admiral’s Row and Dock 72 projects, and the LEED Platinum-certified Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92, which houses the Yard's museum, visitor center, and employment center.

ABB Energy Market Intelligence Workshop at NYEW
Limited Capacity filling up

Join featured NYEW Host, ABB, for this exclusive 2017 Energy Market Intelligence Workshop at New York Energy Week.  Top analyts and market experts present a full-day workshop on the legislative, regulatory and economic assumptions contributing to environmental, power and fuels market price forecasts. The ABB team will discuss complexities across the North American power markets, with a special focus on microgrids.

A must attend event, this workshop provides NYEW attendees a forum for industry discussion and debate supporting energy market investors, portfolio planners, power marketers and analysts with tools to:

  • Evaluate energy market opportunities
  • Value power generation assets
  • Access independent and unbiased energy price forecasts
  • Increase confidence in investment decisions

Confront the conventional wisdom and look past the rhetoric. Ask your most challenging questions about the technological, political and economic forces shaping the power industry.

Workshop Agenda Topic Highlights:

State of the North American energy market – How are Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) affecting the power markets? What are the risks with natural gas fired resources taking a larger role in energy generation and how are the risks being mitigated? As the Mexico market evolves what trends are emerging?

Environmental policy – Where is it headed under the new White House administration and how are states responding? What are the key legal and policy challenges for existing policies? What key decisions and legal outcomes could have an impact on the power sector in the near term?

Renewable development – When does wind and solar reach parity or has it already? Is there a renewable development opportunity in Mexico? This one could pull double duty for the power markets review. Renewable development has outpaced traditional as of late, how long will or can this trend continue?

Microgrids – Through the application of computer software, utility communications, and analytics, the digital grid concept is transforming the grid. Digital substations, advanced distribution management systems, distributed energy resource management systems, and utility analytics are examples of technologies that are changing the landscape. In addition to recent power grid developments that focus on the digital grid, renewable generation, energy storage integration and microgrids, this presentation will also address the three main strategies for embedded, customer grid-connected, and islanded microgrids.

Gain a deeper understanding of the transformations in our markets. Data visualization tools developed by ABB's Velocity Suite will make the story behind the data very interesting; expect to see maps and graphs presenting layers of data, in context, across geography.

Net-Zero Energy Districts: A Promising Piece of New York’s Energy Puzzle
Limited Capacity filling up

Net-Zero Energy Districts - A Promising Piece of New York’s Energy Puzzle
In recent years, communities have shifted their focus from net-zero buildings to net-zero energy districts. Also in a New York context, district thinking may well become instrumental for New York to achieve the renewable integration and energy efficiency goals of REV. Net-zero energy districts can be highly suitable for densely occupied areas, such as urban zones, campuses or manufacturing sites.

This event will take a deep dive into the advantages and possibilities to approach energy at larger scales. More so, energy districts can deliver exceptional energy performance and create communities that are more livable, resilient, and environmentally sustainable. Through two consecutive panel discussions with industry leaders, participants will obtain hands-on and case-based insight into how holistic planning and integration of renewable energy sources and high-performance intelligent buildings can lead to net-zero energy districts.

3.30pm Opening Remarks
4:00pm Panel Debate Optimized District Energy Master Planning
5.15pm Panel Debate Obtaining Exceptional Building Performance
6:15pm Closing Remarks

6.30pm Reception & Happy Hour @Urban Future Lab (depart to 15 Metrotech Center)
