John Davenport is a recognized global expert in light sources, lighting systems and lighting applications; in particular, LEDs, electronic power supply technology, low wattage discharge lamps, and distributed lighting systems. Starting his career at GE Lighting in 1972 as a research scientist, John spent the next 25 years developing numerous advanced lighting products for GE, including the “blue” Xenon headlamp currently used in cars. In November 1999, Mr. Davenport joined Fiberstars (now Energy Focus, Inc.) as its CTO in conjunction with the Fiberstars - Unison merger. Over his past 16 years with Energy Focus, John has led the development of a range of LED lighting products including Intellitube®, Energy Focus’ unique tubular LED retrofit used in lighting US Navy ships and most recently in a broad range of commercial applications. John has held a number of senior lighting positions at Energy Focus, including Chief Technology Officer, Chief Operating Officer, President and Chief Executive Officer. He currently serves Energy Focus as the company’s “Chief Scientist.” Mr. Davenport has received numerous awards, including the Steinmetz Award, GE’s highest technical honor “for breakthroughs and accomplishments that have made a major contribution to the growth of GE’s lighting business.” Mr. Davenport was a 2014 inductee into GE’s “Lighting Hall of Fame.”In addition to authoring numerous technical papers and invited presentations, Mr. Davenport holds more than 125 patents. He also holds BS and MS degrees in Physics from John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio.
